Terminator 6 The Day Recruitment Didnt Die

Terminator 6 The Day Recruitment Didn’t Die Ok, so the title might be a little far-fetched for a feature film, but with the spate of recent blogs about automated systems killing off recruitment, it could very well be Arnie’s next blockbuster.  Maybe. Maybe not. If I sent the script to James Cameron, there’s no doubt he wouldn’t give it a second glance but he’d probably agree on one thing â€" automation won’t completely kill off the recruitment industry. Recent blogs circulating around LinkedIn predicted the end date to be around 2018. We’ve been here before though, haven’t we? We were warned about job boards, social media and even company-branded, internal recruitment departments killing off our industry. (I can’t make sense of that last one either). If anything has happened, we’ve not only survived, but we’ve grown as an industry and it’s looking very likely this will continue.   What strikes me about these pieces of writing  is they all appear to be written by people outside of our industry, who happen to be selling automated software in some cases. Perhaps they were once disgruntled candidates? I’ll come to those shortly. Surely, the question these bloggers need to be asking is how can automation replace an entire industry, rather than predicting our untimely demise. I want to keep this blog post simple and write with one group of people in mind; our candidates. One of the biggest criticisms of our industry comes from the very people we introduce to our clients â€" candidates don’t hear back from recruiters. When recruiters don’t respond to candidates, they feel let down and they don’t know why they’ve been overlooked. When you dig deeper and see how candidates really perceive our industry, you’ll encounter other concerns: recruiters don’t have the specific expertise to understand what the candidate actually does, recruiters don’t provide feedback throughout the recruitment process and recruiters don’t approach companies to really market candidates out.     Now, I’m not bagging recruiters here â€" ok, maybe the lazy ones who don’t control the recruitment process properly, allowing most candidate gripes to surface â€" I am merely outlining some simple matter-of-facts that could be avoided. Candidates want to be able to interact with recruiters and build relationships. They want to be understood and be treated with respect and sincerity. They want to feel confident that their expectations are being managed. They want to feel confident that doors are being opened on their behalf and they want to be kept fully informed throughout the hiring process. They want all of the above with bells and whistles on. And why not? Here’s the question: can an automated system perform all this for a candidate? Can an automated piece of software replace the very interaction and craft that great recruiters fine-tune every day? I could expand even further, but the point needs to be made automated systems, robots, Arnie, whatever you want to call them won’t be replacing an entire industry, anytime soon. Certainly not until those writing these articles on automation provide a realistic argument that makes sense to us and our industry. Automation Doesnt Mean Less Humanization - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Automation Doesnt Mean Less Humanization - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career One of the biggest concerns about social networks is that they can quickly become time consuming. While they may be excellent places for networking, it takes time to generate and post new content regularly, especially if it eats into time that is allocated for other business related activities. For this reason, automation elements have become a useful timesaving tool. Automation allows us to schedule posts and apply them with little effort. The concern with this is that it can take out the humanistic element from your posts. However, this only happens when one doesn’t handle their social automation effectively. Relatable social posts First of all, it’s essential that posts contain intriguing content, such as tips, guides, advice, and trending topics. While it’s important to keep it relevant, adding in some personality will humanize your posts and allow readers to relate to them with their own experiences. One of the best ways to calculate this balance is to apply 80 percent brand topic with 20 percent personality. This doesn’t mean you should share updates about daily tasks such as waking up or eating a sandwich though. Turn your personal posts into relevant brand building material that others can relate to. A little humor goes a long way. Sharing funny stories is a great way to humanize your posts. While covering your brand’s latest and greatest is on the top of your list, when it comes to social networking, the ability for the audience to relate to the brand relies on how relatable your content is. Starting the conversation One of the most basic human elements is to talk with others rather than talk to them.  [Tweet this] To this end you’ll need to use your posts to facilitate conversations with others. Can the audience share it with their own networks and thus facilitate word of mouth marketing? Will they relate to the idea and will they be able to respond to it with their own ideas? The most humanistic element of a post is held in the value of incorporating content that others will have the desire to interact with and ultimately have something to say about. What I do is imagine myself in a room networking with others, and ask myself “is this something I would just blurt out to a group of people I walked up, to?   Or, is there any lead in I would include.”   I include my thoughts, perception or question, with the quote, article or idea to replicate a true human conversation. And, the result is much better than just haphazardly retweeting. Involving others in the conversation While sharing is a big part of social networking, it’s just as important that you get others involved in the conversation as quickly and effectively as possible. One of the best methods is to use discussion tools such as Twitter’s @reply to chime into conversations. This can still be automated, and will get you into conversations and help you improve visibility at the same time. Essentially, you’ll need to make your conversations about other people too (your brand’s audience primarily), not just yourself and your brand. When you involve others in your posts, they see it and are more open to interaction, as long as you keep it positive and relevant. What have they done that has impacted you and your brand? Do they influence you in some way? Incorporate these principles into your social posts and you will achieve both humanization and attention regardless of whether or not your post was automated. Automation doesn’t mean less humanization when it comes to social media. It’s all about the delivery of your content that affects those who read and share it with others. When your posts portray the human element of your brand, it won’t matter if they’re automated because it delivers the message you need the most. Re-branding Phase 5 DanSchawbel.com^2 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career

Re-branding Phase 5 DanSchawbel.com^2 - Personal Branding Blog - Stand Out In Your Career For phase 5 of my re-branding, I have developed a new version of DanSchawbel.com. As noted in a post a few months back, DanSchawbel.com was to represent the future of recruitment and force my readers to purchase their domain name (yourname.com) immediately. You are your Google results, so ensure your domain is purchased and ranks high. I get email all the time asking me what the future of recruitment is and my answer remains consistent: the future of recruitment is personal branding. They ask how and why? I respond, personal branding allows you to convey your message to the outside world, whatever that message may be. By branding yourself online, you are giving enough information regarding your value, differentiation and marketability that recruiters can make a decision without having you run through a screening and seven interviews. Even more so, you can use your brand to attract others, whether it be the media, prospective customers or business owners. This can create opportunities, thus positioning you for success. With a personal brand, you are displaying your passions, matched with your skillset. Therefore, you will be compensated based on what you enjoy and not a corporate job you acquire based on just taking the job to pay the bills. Whats changed for DanSchawbel.com ^2? The latest version has all the same imagery and design work as my blog, magazine, tv show and award websites. I noticed that the previous version had far too many pages and the flash was poor for optimizing the site. The new site comes with an updated representation of my brand, including a new video resume and press kit. Ive also categorized the pages, so they all start with the letter p: personal, professional, personal branding, people press. In my opinion, thats what anyone should showcase. If your readers cant connect to your professional life, they may be able to with your personal life or the people youve met. Here are my accomplishments thus far: Phase 4: Personal Brand Awards (2008) Phase 3: Personal Branding Magazine Phase 2: Personal Branding TV Phase 1: New Logo What do you think of the improvement? Where women stand An analysis of The Apprentice

Where women stand An analysis of The Apprentice I have never seen such an honest, unabashed portrait of the difficulties women face in corporate America as I have seen in The Apprentice. Unabashed truth #1: Men hire people who are like them. Its the men who set the tone for corporate life, the same men who win The Apprentice. For those of you who do not watch the show, the final episode was between Kelly (white male, 37) and Jennifer (white female, 31). It didnt matter that the general consensus was that Jennifer has more passion than Kelly. It didnt matter that Jennifer delivered comparable results to Kelly in a world that is dominated by men and not women. The only thing that mattered, in the end, was that Kelly was proven and steady. These are euphemisms for male. Proven, in this instance, means that people can count on him to act like a man. And steady in this context means that men are not as passionate as women and thank goodness because men are not used to dealing with that kind of passion except when they want to get laid. Unabashed truth #2: Women must use sex well, but not too well. Carolyn, Donald Trumps sidekick, is a hot blond who wears sleeveless shirts that reveal taut arms but never stray far from Brooks Brothers styling. Carolyn kisses Trump (on both cheeks) in situations in which Trumps second sidekick, George (older man) walks away without so much as a pat on the back. But Carolyn is presented on the show as someone powerful. Its a balancing act. If Carolyn were ugly, this setup would not work. If she were as old as George, then Trump would not look as good sitting between the two of them. Carolyn is careful to condemn female contestants for using sex as a way to get ahead. She has to say that. Balance is everything for women right now. You need to be totally hot and totally oblivious to it. Unabashed truth #3: Children impact womens careers more than mens. A recent Congressional study found that professional men and women make the same amount of money for doing the same jobs until the men and women have kids. Then the womens salaries fall behind. Likely explanations: Women take on the brunt of the household/childrearing duties even in homes where the spouses were equal earners before kids; women take less responsibility at work because theyre overwhelmed by the balancing act; men do not cut back because the more money they make the more they are likely to have a wife (and probably a nanny, a maid, etc) at home enabling them. The Apprentice is a realistic depiction of this problem. Women with kids are not likely to audition for fifteen weeks of living in an absurd, dorm-like arrangement without their kids. It is no surprise that in the most recent episode, the only Apprentices who had kids were men. Unabashed truth #4: Most powerful women with kids have a husband taking care of them. Every so often a business publication will feature an article about how women get to the top, or the ten most powerful women, or women who broke through the glass ceiling. In each article, women who refuse to be identified by name cite the fact that their husband takes care of their home and kids as crucial to her ability to succeed at the office. Carolyn is no exception. She is the most powerful woman on The Apprentice, and her husband is the primary caretaker for her two kids. So if you want to get an accurate sense of how far women have come in corporate life, take a look at The Apprentice. And dont be shocked that men keep winning. If you want to make a difference in your career, I would not advise acting like a man (not believable) or getting plastic surgery (you dont need to be THAT hot). But I would advise that whether youre male or female, make sure you have a spouse who is willing to take care of home duties while you build a powerhouse career.

7 Uncommon Interview Questions - Be Prepared - CareerAlley

7 Uncommon Interview Questions - Be Prepared - CareerAlley We may receive compensation when you click on links to products from our partners. Some interviewers like to get a little creative and put their interviewees in the hot seat by asking questions that break the classic interview mold. The purpose of these questions is to put you in a pressure situation where you are required to think quickly without losing composure. The benefits of these unusual interview questions are twofold for the interviewer Knock em Dead Job Interview: How to Turn Job Interviews Into Job Offers Price: $10.89 Using his twenty-five years of experience, New York Times bestselling author Martin Yate has established a set of rules for job interviews that is sure to get you noticed. Last Updated: March 2, 2020 The answers that you provide about yourself allow the interviewee to learn about you on a personal level by providing details of your life and personality that you surely did not write on the resume. Your ability to keep composure, and perform under pressure during an interview, is indicative of your ability to handle similarly stressful situations in the work environment. Although it would be impossible to prepare a list of all of the uncommon interview questions that could possibly be asked of you, here is a sample list below, of a few humdingers. Since, in all likelihood, you will not be able to predict the questions that an interviewer will ask, I do not recommend simply reading over the list, and preparing answers. Rather, I recommend pretending that you are at the interview, and after making a spectacular impression from the first part of the interview, the interviewer sends you a curve-ball of a question. Then look at one question at a time, and try to articulate a good answer. By the way, the full benefit of this exercise will only be realized if you answer aloud. The purpose of this exercise is to help you to develop your ability to think quickly without losing composure at your interview. So, without further adieu: What would you do if you didnt need to work for a living? What book are you currently reading and why? What do other people think of you, and is that accurate? What is the difference between, to say, and to tell. If you could ask anybody one question who would you ask and what would the question be, and why? If you could be any animal, what would you be and why? If you caught a coworker using office equipment for personal use what would you do? Hopefully, by getting accustomed to answering these types of questions you will become more capable of quickly thinking of good answers, explaining your thoughts, and keeping composure. If all else fails, imagining that the interviewer is wearing a clown hat can take the edge off of a stressful interview. Most interviews include the usual run of the mill questions, but occasionally there are strange and unexpected questions your interviewer may ask. While you cant prepare for all strange questions, you can have some idea as to what to expect when youre faced with one in an interview. The most important thing that you can do is to keep your composure and think about the question before you blurt out an answer. Above all, be yourself, be confident and answer the questions openly and honestly. If they dont like the answers, its not the company for you. 96 Great Interview Questions to Ask Before You Hire Price: $12.29 Buy Now from Amazon We earn a commission if you click this link and make a purchase at no additional cost to you.
